This was the morning of 25th April, 2018. Teachers were busy imparting knowledge to eager and attentive girl students little did they knew that they would lose all their personal belongings including school material in a fire at their dormitory.

“The fire broke out between 8.40am and 9.30am and by this time we were all busy in class, save for three girls who were sick and were at the dormitory,” recalls Samson Kasungu, Headmaster at Namikasi Secondary School.

National Bank of Malawi (NBM) plc on Friday disbursed K7.8 million worth of scholarships to 20 students who are struggling to raise school fees at the Polytechnic, a constituent college of the University of Malawi.

NBM plc made the pledge last year to pay school fees for the 20 students until they finish their courses after four years of study. The whole package is worth K1.6 million per student which translates to K32 million over the four year period.

Speaking when the bank disbursed fees for the second year students in Blantyre, NBM Head of Risk Charles Ulaya urged the students to work hard in class to make the bank proud of its investment.

This means that customers of the two stock exchange listed firms can enjoy seamless transactions whenever they want to withdraw or send money from their TNM Mpamba to an NBM account

They can also cash out money sent to their Mpamba wallet from any NBM account over the counter or using the banks mobile platform Mo626ice anywhere in the country.

The bank awarded the students with cash amounts of K362,500 each and pledged to buy computers worth K4.5 million to help the students in their studies.

The students include Lonjezo Folias currently pursuing a Bachelor of Sciences in Agricultural and Applied Economics, Leonard Kumwenda who is studying for Bachelor of Science in Irrigation Engineering, Kingdom Simfukwe pursuing Bachelor of Science in Aquaculture and Fisheries Science and Romeo Fabiano doing a Bachelor of Science in Gender and Development.

National Bank of Malawi plc Head of Retail Banking Division division Oswin Kasunda has advised small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to invest in perfecting their business proposals if they are to easily access business loans.

Speaking on the sidelines of a women entrepreneurs workshop in Blantyre, he said the perspective of the Malawi stock exchange (MSE) listed bank is that a viable business proposal is a winning formula when considering whether to give loans to the client or not.

Women are naturally kind-hearted and they will do anything to uplift their family income and status hence their involvement in different businesses.

But it is not easy for a woman, especially in Malawi to be involved in a successful business venture which is mostly dominated by men.

Most women do not t give up and venture into different businesses to supplement family income or indeed take care of the whole family.

The problem has been the source of funds and business skills to successfully run major and profitable businesses.

Malawi Ambassador to Kuwait and Mr Felix Maulidi will fly to Sun City in South Africa after winning in National Bank of Malawi (NBM) FiestaSave promotion.

National Bank of Malawi plc (NBM) has handed over a K36.3M refurbished Tuberculosis (TB )ward at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, NBM Head of Retail Banking Division Oswin Kasunda said the ward will help TB patients to live in a conducive environment during their treatment.

He said, " We all know that TB treatment takes a lot of time and patients need a good environment as they stay along period in the hospital. It is our hope that the rehabilitated facility will be looked after properly and every installation will remain in its place for the benefits of the patients."
